King George's Damion Carroll was selected in the 6th round in the MLB draft on Tuesday by Tampa.
How he got the news, from the POST:
King George senior pitcher Damion Carroll, whose jokey demeanor and quirky ways tend to draw an audience, had his teammates’ rapt attention again Tuesday afternoon on a bus ride to Powhatan for a Virginia AA quarterfinal.
Carroll got the news that he and the Foxes had been awaiting all season: He had been drafted, by the Tampa Bay Rays, in the sixth round, with the 212th pick. He put the congratulatory call from the Rays on speakerphone for all to hear.
“The bus was quiet,” Carroll said by phone amid considerable background hubbub as the team neared Powhatan. “I started yelling. Everybody, not just me.”
Congrats to Damion...still TBD:  If he signs.  He does have the possibility of playing JC ball in Texas if he can't come to an agreement with the Rays.
A local guy is now part of the Yankees organization.  Westfield HS graduate Matthew Snyder, who played college ball at Ole Miss, was selected by the Yanks in the 10th round of the MLB draft.  His brother Brandon Snyder is a Texas Ranger (and former high pick of the O's).
